Origins of Kenpo

James Masayoshi Mitose (December 30th, 1915- March 26th, 1981).
James Mitose began his training in Japan from family relatives before the start of World War II.The system in which he learned was developed by the Koshogi monks of Japan, who in turn combined jiu-jitsu and chuan fa Shaolin kung-fu to form Shorei Ryu Kenpo. James Mitose and his family moved to Hawaii where he started teaching Kenpo Karate. One of his most promising students was a man called William K.S. Chow.

Origins Of The Martial Arts

Martial Arts has existed for as long as man has lived. Hieroglyphic inscriptions engraved in the pyramids prove that the Egyptians had a form of open-hand combat as early as 3000 BC. In ancient Greek civilisation boxing and wrestling formed part of the first Olympiads and during days of the Roman Empire open handed combat was practiced by the gladiators.
The term Karate is a Japanese word meaning "Empty Hand" or "China Hand".
The term Kenpo is also Japanese meaning "Fist Law" or "Law of the Fist".
