Finn Ryan

 

Three Rock Kenpo was opened in 2009 by 3rd degree Black Belt Mr Finn Ryan. Mr Ryan started training in Martial Arts in 1982 at the age of twelve. He has studied several different styles and systems, including two years of Wado Ryu Karate training and four years of Shotokan Karate training. He has also attended seminars in Kung fu, Jujitsu, Aikido and Advanced Kenpo Karate.

In 1990 Mr Ryan began studying the traditional Kenpo Karate syllabus under 3rd degree Black Belt Mr Pat Conlon. Mr Ryan quickly realised that Kenpo would be the style, to which, he would dedicate the rest of his Martial Arts career. The realistic techniques, the intricate forms (Katas), the technical hand movements and the dynamic kicking was exactly what Mr Ryan had been looking for in other Martial Arts.

 

In 1995 Mr Ryan successfully graded for his 1st Degree Black Belt under 3rd degree Black Belt Mr Pat Conlon. Mr Ryan began teaching traditional Kenpo Karate in 1995 once he had achieved his Black Belt. In 2002 Mr Ryan joined the ISKK Firhouse and began studying the Modern Kenpo Karate syllabus under 4th Degree Black Belt Mr John Reddin. In 2005 Mr Ryan and his fellow Black Belt instructors took 40 students to Holland to take part in the Kenpo Championships (IKC). They won a total of 53 medals and trophies at international level.

In 2006 Mr Ryan began training with 8th Degree Black belt Mr Alan Corrigan. Mr Corrigan is one of the top Kenpo Karate practitioners in Europe. In 2005 he was awarded with Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame award in Boston and he currently serves on the American Kenpo International Senior Council. In February 2007 Mr Ryan successfully graded for his 2nd Degree Black Belt in the famous High Street Club under 9th Degree Black Belt Mr Shay Paget, 9th Degree Black Belt Mr Barney Coleman, 8th Degree Black Belt Mr Alan Corrigan and other high ranking members of the AKI.

In March 2010 Mr Ryan successfully graded for his 3rd Degree Black Belt under 9th Degree Black Belt Mr Shay Paget, 8th Degree Black Belt Mr Alan Corrigan, 6th Degree Black Belt Mr Dermot O'Rielly, 6th Degree Black Belt Ms Freda Roberts and other high ranking members of the AKI. Also attending the grade were several of the Black Belts from Loreto College Kenpo Karate school including 4th Degree Mr Darryl Murray, 3rd Degree Mr Jonathon Tully, 3rd Degree Mr John Bradley, 3rd Degree Mr Ciaran Roberts, 2nd Dergee Mr Garbhan Dillon, 2nd Degree Ms Sinead Rooney and 1st Degree Ms Pamela Keating.Over the years Mr Ryan has attended many seminars in Kenpo in both Europe and America including seminars by 9th Degree Shay Paget, 10th Degree Al Tracy, 10th Degree Maurice Mahon, 10th Degree Tommy Jordan and 10th Degree Mike Pick.
