Newsletter Sept 2011
Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to Three Rock Karate, if you are an existing student I hope you had a relaxing summer break and if you are new student you are very welcome. We are looking forward to a new year in training and hopefully this year will be as successful as last year. I want to take this opportunity to inform everybody involved in our schools (students and parents) of the basic requirements for ensuring everything runs smoothly. Training Times Tuesdays in Ballinteer Community School, Ballinteer. 18.30 – 19.30 Junior Class 19.30 – 21.30 Senior Class Thursdays in Gaelscoil Thaobh na Coille, Stepaside. 18.30 – 19.30 Junior Class 19.30 – 21.00 Senior Class It is important that the classes start at the allotted time, so please make sure you arrive 5-10mins before the class commences. This way we can get all of the organisation out of the way and the students can have full classes. Fees As best as possible we try to keep the fees to a minimum in our schools, this is the primary reason why we do not charge per term or by block booking. The cheapest way for students to pay their fees is “Pay as you go”, however, the rent of the halls still needs to be paid. So please ensure your fees are paid in full every week. Karate Suits Like every other sport, you need to have the correct gear. New students are not expected to get a karate suit until after four weeks of training, ensure you like it and are going to stay and then ask Aisling or myself and we will get you one. Karate Suits cannot be purchased until a student has paid their insurance. Insurance and Registration Insurance is extremely important for any Martial Arts School, so please ensure your insurance is up to date. Insurance will cover any student training in either of the Ballinteer or Stepaside Schools. If you are a new student you are not expected to pay insurance during the first few weeks of training, ensure you like it and are going to stay. After four weeks of training it is essential that your insurance money is then paid, as we cannot allow anybody to train without being insured. Gradings We hold grading nights in our schools twice a year, most students in our schools will grade once a year depending on circumstances. Being awarded grades is not solely based upon the student’s ability; dedication and the right attitude are also factors. I try to get everybody in the school in a position where they can achieve at least one new grade in the year. The grading nights are the schools big events during the year and every student is expected to attend to support their fellow students. Members of the student’s families are more than welcome to come to the grading nights and take as many pictures as they want. School Ethos Finally, and most importantly is our school ethos. Respect, dedication and attitude are important to make the individual into a good Martial Artist and like everything else these attributes have to be learned. There is a serious side to the training and as a student progresses up the ranks the training does become more stringent and more intense. At Three Rock Karate we try to make every student, both junior and senior, realise their full potential in martial arts. We do this through support and praise and with an understanding that we were all beginners once. We try to make all our classes fun and interesting for both junior and senior students. Our classes are taught with enjoyment and enthusiasm where everybody is encouraged to take part.
