Dear Students and Parents,
We hope everybody had a great summer holiday and we are delighted to see everybody back training for the new school term.
Last year was a great year for everybody involved and during the coming year we will be building upon our success both inside and outside our Karate Schools.
Student of the Month
This year we will be introducing a new “Student of the Month” for both the Ballinteer and Stepaside junior classes. Once a month we will be awarding a girl and boy from each school with a certificate for being the best student. The criteria for being awarded the certificate will be based on behaviour in the class, home practice and attendance. The winners picture will be posted onto our Website each month.
Club Badges
Over the next few weeks we will be organising some fund raising events to raise money for buying badges for the student’s suits. There are four badges that all students, both junior and senior, require for their karate suits. These badges are
1) The Official American Kenpo Badge
2) The American Kenpo International Badge
3) The Three Rock Kenpo Badge
4) Viper, Tiger, Dragon Badge.
Fund Raising
Unfortunately, fund raising is a problem for all sports schools or clubs. All Karate Schools need to fundraise for various reasons, correct sparing equipment, Club track suits, Kicking Pads, attending international competitions etc. Most fundraising can be done with quiz nights, bag packing, sponsorships and so on. Our first fund raising events will be small sponsorship walks or Karate Classes, where the students will be expected to fundraise a small amount to cover the cost of the badges.
Halloween Party
This year we will be having a Halloween Party for the students in both junior classes. The Ballinteer Halloween Party will be on Oct 25th and the Stepaside Halloween Party will be on Oct27th. All junior students are expected to dress up and there will be a prize for the best dressed boy and girl.
They will be doing some karate that night, so try and keep the costumes to a Martial Arts theme.
Mid Term Break
The mid-term break will be on Tuesday 1st of Nov and Thursday 3rd of Nov. There will be no Classes on these nights.
Gradings
Between now and Christmas we hope to grade a couple of students to yellow tips and yellow belts.
These are the students that where not ready for the grading last year or have joined since our schools since last Christmas.
We will be holding another grading day next year for everybody to achieve their next belt. However, we know that, for kids, a year between belts is a long time. We are thinking of doing an orange tip grade, around Christmas, for everybody presently on yellow belts.
